French Drain - May/June 2025
This is the stream when we first moved in. It was flowing pretty strong and made the backyard area up to the foundation pretty soggy! We knew we needed a solution...
We dug out the stream and created a trench about 12 inches in depth. Hard work but was necessary!
Continued the trench upward, encountered decent size rocks. As my dad paraphrased from Archimedes, "With a big enough lever, you can move the world!"
After the trench was officially deep enough, we layered some crushed stone, inserted the perforated pipe and covered it with more crushed stone and lastly, the weed preventing, eco-friendly, filter fabric.
The cherry on top, 2-3 inches of nice soil.
Our dog, Piper, is the official inspector of the French Drain. She approved.
Backyard picture in October. Although the French Drain wasn't tested too much this summer (hot and dry!!!), we were able to do some late seeding in the Fall to renovate the backyard. Excited for the grass to "explode" come Spring!
